Last week the new OVI Store was presented to the public at the Nokia World Conference in London.
I was surprised as soon as I got the first tweets and blog posts talking about the new OVI Store redesign. The new OVI Store design and a redesign I did just for fun in the end of last year showed some resemblances. And I only had the chance to post it on SlideShare http://slidesha.re/bkns0R this August.

This is just a timeline tracker of Nokia OVI Store evolution (and improvements).

A few months ago (let’s say 7) before the release of Nokia N900, there wasn’t an OVI Store for this device. During one of those boring winter weekends with nothing interesting to do, I decided to draw a few ideas. I focused on how OVI Store would look for this particular device.

A few weeks after working on my designs, I was surprised by Nokia’s own design and release of the OVI store for the N900. I was, actually, expecting much more as it was very similar to other OVI stores for other Nokia handsets. I understand that they wanted to bring the same user experience throughout all the different phones, but with this new real state screen the user interface could have been improved. They weren’t able to take advantage of the whole screen, the marketing and sales area wasn’t used at its full potential.

I have shared these designs with some of my friends, but I have never shared them with the wide public.
I must say that I admire Nokia’s work and do not want to underestimate their job, I just wanted to have a say and share my vision. And it also a good exercise!
